relations between parts

I'm an undergrad student doing research for the summer at my university. The project I'm working on is for General Electric, so I really want to do well. I started using Creo 2.0 on Monday. I'm progressing quickly, but they have high expectations. The problem I'm having is with relations and parameters in an assembly. Is it possible to make a dimension in one part be dependent on a dimension in a different part? Also, where are relations and parameters defined in the .lst file, if at all? GE wants to be able to change critical dimensions as they see fit. The entire assembly should adapt to the new dimensions and fit together nicely.

You create the relations using session IDs to refer to dimensions in other components. These look like d34:12, where 12 is the session ID of the other component and d34 is the dimension name.

They are defined in the part or assembly file. the .lst file is an output for reference and doesn't control anything.

Getting the session ID is done by selecting the Relations dialog and under the menu item Show is where you'll find Session ID.

Today many (most?) people do this with skeletons in the assembly. The skeleton contains the master geometry which gets copied into the parts. Change the skeleton, regen the assembly and every part updates. There are several other ways to do it including relations and layouts.

E-cognition has some really good tutorials. They don't have much that is Creo-2 specific but the older ones show the principals well. PTC also has a lot of tutorials on their elearning, 30 days free. There is also a lot of free content on their learning exchange.

would it be possible to drive the geometry of the bearing-gear combo with such a skeleton in the asm context (# of balls, module and # of teeth on the gear...)?
the problem is also that there are quite a few variations, like when the gear is on the outside or there is no gear at all, different setups of the bearing itself (img #2 vs #1, note that there is no gear on the second bearing, just holes for it, but on #1 it's part of the bearing).

what would be the most robust solution for automating at least part of the design of such a bearing?
is it possible to turn features (in the part) on or off, when the first type of bearing is needed (or similar for a gear inside, outside or none)
