Hello everybody ,
In a psv sized for blocked flow case(gases)relief temp is equal to the operating temp but if the pipe and also a close by vessel catches fire what would be the relief temp in that case . Should i use amonton's law to calculate the relief temperature.
Thx !!

Try reading API RP 521, this document will walk you through the various relief cases including fire.

Had to google Amonton (died 1705). Well whatever his law is as long as i describes the relationship between boilingpint P/T then fine.

I short: Determine the boiling temperature at your specified relief pressure (INCLUDING allowable ove pressure). This is probably done by using a process simulation tool if you have a mixture of organic compounds or if water a steam table.

Best regards, Morten
