In the past we've used products such as Avesta's pickling paste on s.s. to clean up small isolated areas exhibiting oxidation. I have several plates ( 2205 ) which came in from our vendor with rusty scratches. Normally, I'd reject them and have them replaced, but, in this case due to delivery constraints, that isn't an option. Has anyone any other suggestions for cleaning these areas?

I've had excellant results with commercial H3PO4 based cleaners applied at 100% let sit and rinse off. I have opted to do a little scrubing of heavier rust deposits.

Try dilute nitric acid with added potassium dichromate (see AMS-QQ-P-35)

Thanks guys,

unclesyd, Can you provide a manufacturer or supplier for the H3PO4.

yates,
I'm not familiar with AMS QQ PP-35, any idea where I can find additional info?

thanks again,

A local chemical supply store. They all have a H3PO4 based cleaner or you can use Ospho or Weedac from a building supply center.

Use all at 100% concentation.
