Hi Folks,
Is there a way to pull my stamp off my drawings?

I was helping my friend on his house addition, plan check/permit is done and now I have a hard time collecting my payment (since it's friend, i didn't do contract with him!!)

any input?
thanks a lot

Not a reason to deny engineering involvement under most US statutes. You can go down to the building department and retract the plans, but not sure if it will affect the permit. Doesn't hurt to try though. File a lien on the house. If his addition is being financed, that will throw a wrench in the gears.

You betcha.

And when it's all over, find a new friend...

"find a new friend"

Obviously, wasn't much of a friend to begin with, so no big loss. Nonetheless, this is an awkward road to follow...

Thank you folks,
Do i have an obligation to answer RFI for their Contractor?

thanks

I would answer the RFI like this:

"I understand your question about my plans. But I cannot answer you as the client has failed to pay me my fee and I'm concerned about their financial condition."

Might make the contractor wonder a bit, eh?

Your state's laws may affect your rights since you don't have a contract. I suggest you run this by an attorney.

Here in California, a contract is required ( but I am unsure how a case such as your would turn out.

Write a letter to the local jurisdiction requesting that your name be removed as the structural engineer of record. Any changes to the approved planset, he will have to get the approval of another engineer.

What JAE says is good for the contractor's questions.

Lack of a written contract does not necessarily negate the presence of a verbal one. It's just harder to establish what the agreement actually was.
