I am working on a project where they are installing a screenwall on an existing metal deck roof. I need to remove a good portion of the deck in order to install the base plates on the existing beams for the screen wall columns. Then after the columns are installed I will have them come back in and infill the metal deck with new. Typically I would just frame angles back to the supporting beams and then have them install the deck. The problem with that is that I don't think they will be able to get up under the deck to install the angles. So my thought was to just overlap the existing deck with the new and then have them screw or weld the joints. I'm pretty sure they can't get a CJP weld on that seem though. I'm just worried about the diaphragm action. I plan on attaching the new deck to the new base plates of the screen wall columns also at the intermediate support. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
