Can anyone suggest an effective safe method of removing old labels from the plastic cases of medical electronic devices being remanufactured for reuse. We currently use E-xacto knifes but operators have cut themselves. Chemical label removers need to soak through the label but the labels are designed to resist cleaning chemicals.

Why not get new packaging? This whole things smells to me. I would bet the FDA wouldn't approve of such an operation. If you are allowed to remanufacture whatever this is relabel the packaging with a new label over the old stating remanufactured.

Thank you for the reply. My interest is in removeing old labels from the device itself not from the packaging. They are often damaged and need replacing. We do not place new labels over old ones and yes the FDA does frown on that, but they have no problem removing the old and replacing them.

If the device housing is compatible, using heat from a hot air gun tends to do a nice job on "softening" label adhesives so that they may be peeled away. It has worked well for me on numerous occasions.

Yes, heat will definitely help. My wife usually heats up the new crockery to peel off the label stickers.

Hello MMdeacon

I have used penetrating oil with great results on some labels. As long as the oil can get through label and down to adheiseve to attack it the label can be peeled off fairly easy and residue can then be removed with same oil on shop rag with a couple of wipes.

The oil that seems to work best is called "Blaster" Here is a link of the product.
