Hello,

I've looked through CAST, so I'm guessing this is unlikely, but is it possible to render a scene in NX with a transparent background? I'd like to render a part in NX and import it into Photoshop where I can insert my own backgrounds. I'm already aware of the ability to insert background images into an NX scene but it is not helpful for this particular application.

Cheers,

James

Just render with a solid background colour (preferably with good contrast to your model). Then just use Photoshop to mask your image(using the magic wand tool).

Mark,

Dead right only method I every use. One tip not necessarily anything to do with NX, but white is also a color until you make it transparent in photoshop.

An other idea that I have tried which works and is suitable for similar situations, though I just think photoshop is easier, is to set a background in NX before you shade your image. Times when you might want to use this and a case that worked for me are when you want to render with shadows falling on your backdrop. It was effective for a case where I captured the drawing to a TIFF swapped the colors for a blue background with white line-work to make it look like an old fashioned blueprint, and then used that for the backdrop with shadows falling onto the paper. It looked pretty cool.

Thanks guys.

I thought this may be the only method. I've had success with the lasso tool and polygon selection in the past. The main problem I've had is with soft-edged shadows. Thanks for your suggestions.
