Renumbering nodes from left to right

Hi all,

I would like to ask how to renumbering nodes in ascending order from left to right?

I tried using, mesh > edit > node > renumber
but there is an error saying that this operation couldnt be done on part contains geometry.
What does this mean?
My part is a thin plate of 20x8 with 3 holes in the middle.
