Gents,

I am a little bit confused about Section 12 API 653 regading RT scope. Item 12.1.3.2 stablish "completed repairs of butt-welds shall be examined over their FULL LENGTH by RT or UT". On the other hand, item 12.2.1.1.c) says "Repaired joints in existing shell plates shall have one additional RT in each joint".

Finally, Is it full o spot???

12.1.3.2 says when you fix defects in shell butt welds, the completed repair NDE is 100% RT or UT and the RT in 12.2.1.1.c ( and 12.2.1.2.c and 12.2.1.3.c) do to NOT apply. So, all repaired weld defects need 100% RT or UT and that's all. If you are 100% RT it seems perhaps unnecessary to refer to 12.2.1.2, 3 and 4, but if you are doing 100% UT then it makes more sense that the RT in 12.2.1.2, 3 and 4 is not needed.

This is only for when you fix butt weld defects.
