I have a sheet of ABS with another sheet of ABS butt welded to it in a T fashion.

This weld joint is under tension and I have cracked about 4 inches near the end of the weld. I cannot separate the pieces to repair them and the crack is only detectable because the vertical part can be moved sideways exposing the joint line. This is a tank and I can only access one side of the weld.

How can this be repaired so that the crack will not propagate and fail again?
This is under continual tension (approx.. 300 psi) in a vibration environment.

Thanks

Maybe you are asking to much of the part.

Without details of the first weld, I can only generally suggest that you re-weld the crack and build up the fillet radii at the weld.

It can be welded by solvent cement specifically formulated for ABS or by a ABS rod and a hot air gun. The rod and the part may need drying to do a real good job.

To build up fillet rad with solvent cement you may need to dissolve some extra ABS in the cement so as to make it thicker.

Pat

Try taking screen wire and with small square pieces tab it together every half inch or so like spot welds submerging the wire down in the plastic like rebar in concrete this should make it hold up
