Hello

We want to replace valve body of material A 216 WCB with locally fabricated/machined valve body of AISI 4140 or AISI 1022 material. These valve body are machined from round bars and flanges are welded to the valve body.

I want to know the following:

1. Can we machine a valve body from AISI 4140 or AISI 1022 round bars and use it as pressure parts.
2. Is welds of these material are allowed as pressure welds.
3. Is there any references available for using the same material for valve body ( Machining valves body from round bar).

Best regards

Abrar

Change rather the valve than changing parts only.A Patch works shall never work. What about the valve rating?
AISI 4140is not the one to be used for the valve body.

Get a copy of ASME B16.34, Valves Flanged, Threaded...
Table 1 shows allowable bar materials as A675 Grade 70, A105 (forged), A350 LF2, and A696 Grade C.
