Replacing 3ph 5hp 2sp Pin Router Motor

I have a dilemma. I have acquired an ancient SCMI pin router that has the original, untested 3ph 5hp 2-speed motor in it. It's mechanically sound, but the wiring for the router is a mess, and my personal shop does not have 3ph power. I'm left with two choices. I can either shell out for a VFD which may or may not get this thing running, or I can replace the motor. First, I don't really need 5hp - I'm just going to do some non-production guitar building with this router. I could probably get by fine with 1-3hp. Single phase is a must, and I don't really need the two-speed capability.

The two pics show the current overall motor and the spec tag. The tag tells you most of the story, and I mic'd the shaft at around .68" Can anyone provide any specifics as to possible replacement that would, if not bolt right up, but be comparable in size/configuration/mounting so as to keep fabrication to a minimum?

Any help would be appreciated.

Shell out..

A VFD will allow you to get the MOST out of that motor. It will also you allow you start it softly without resetting half your computers and the neighbors. Seen the price of motors lately? Not sure, but probably about the same price as a VFD.

Also, the motor looks to be insulation class E so I wouldn't stick a VFD on it. It might set off your smoke alarms as well.

Any help identifying the frame size/type of this motor to aid in my search for a 1ph replacement, or a suggestion as to a specific replacement motor? I don't mind sacrificing some of the HP for the simplicity of a 1ph/220v motor.

Nothing on the pic indicates a frame-size. I suggest you take the whole motor to a good shop. They will identify the frame size, assuming its standard and any non-standard alterations. They will also be happy to quote to supply a 1ph motor, assuming one is available......dont forget to replace the exsisting 3ph control gear with 1ph equipment that will protect the motor and meets with your local codes/regulations and ensure the installation can handle the current demand. You may also have to carry out extensive mods to the fixings and pulley if a direct replacement is not available.
