Hello,

I should say that I am a novice when it comes to Titanium..Are certain grades of Titanium heat treatable?

My application is to replace a heavy piece of 4140 steel heat treated to 55 Rc, with maybe titanium..Is this possible? The piece would see about 13 Tons of compressive force..

Forgive me for this basic question, but I really have no idea if this is feasable..

thanks in advance,
Brent

Some cautions.
Ti looses strength much faster than steel as the temperature rises.
Ti has a low modulus. A part that is the same dimensions as a steel part will deflect twice as much under load. (this includes vibration)

You can do this, but you need to do some homework.

Corrosion never sleeps, but it can be managed.

Thanks Ed Stainless
Your post cleared up my prob
Ti spindle was being used on a RC heli and was getting seemingly big deflection prob
Thanks
