Hi..
Usually i used to apply some percentage of damping during response analysis.now i need to two know things..
1.what does the term " representative values for damping" mean?
2.Is it differ from the way of mentioning the damping in certain percentage (say 2 or 3%)

note:My analysis is assumed as linear analysis

1 it probably means to use typical values for the model in question

For example, a steel crankshaft in free free might be around 0.002, whereas a complete suspension might be nearer 0.2

If you have test data you can fiddle around with the damping for each mode to get a good match. If you haven't got test data then get some.

2 I expect you are using eta. I can't remember the definition, it is in all the books.

Cheers
