Good morning,

I am an inspector of an Italian body certification according to the PED (pressure equipment directive) 2014/68/UE.

I have questions relating to two different customers that would also like to sell in the USA

1)

A customer builds skids for the production of compressed air consisting of a compressor, vessel, piping and safety valve

- Does the vessel have to be ASME U STAMP?

- Does the piping have to be calculated according to ASME B31.3, welding performed according to ASME IX and nondestructive examination performed according to ASME V?

- Does the piping have be ASME PP STAMP?

-For avoid welding and nondestructive examination can be used tube fittings?

- Does the pressure safety valve have to be UV STAMP?

2)

A customer builds pressure-retaining covers for vessel openings, these must be ASME STAMP?

Thanks for the support

Best regards

Lorenzo

Your are probably best asking this in the Boiler and Pressure vessel forum ( under Mechanical engineers) and then deleting this post ( double posts are not allowed).

You might find it varies by state and also are you selling to the end customer or a fabricator who is incorporating your equipment into their package / plant.

Actually I can see that you have done that so please delete this thread so that all answers end up int he one place.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Wow. That linked mtm article is seriously old.

To the OP: it’s PED 2014/68/EU. Not UE. Please try to show your profession in relation to your work. What is avoid welding? A new process?

ET has some interesting courses and videos. We followed their pipe stress course.

What they’re saying is my understanding and experience over the years as wel. You can or need to convince the nobo. They can accept it, sure - but they may also deny it.

That’s the thing. Some bobo’s have too much power and don’t understand all technical verbiage - yet need to judge your arguments. That were you sometimes loose it.

We’ve had that situation a few times already on all kinds of subjects, but sometimes you’re just required to follow, regardless if it’s (occasional) stupidity - as is the case with the ESR for stress allowables on austenitic stainless steels. Where ASME IID or B31.3 allowables need to be derated.

The ASME PTB-10 and PTB-11 are very good way to start with understanding how to use ASME BPVC to meet the PED requirements.

But I think the OP is trying to understand what a pressure vessel manufacutrer, located in Europe shall do in order to sell pressure vessel in the US.

Correct. For that matter, visit the national board’s synopsis (NB-370).
