Can anyone give me an idea of the level of residual magnetism found in some pipes that have been worked repeatedly, due to the earth's magnetic field?

30 Gauss is typical for linepipe that has not been worked repeatedly. It can be higher or lower but 30 is the most common spec requirement for standard pipe.
