Resonable to ask?

So 20 plus year old sprinkled building.
Originally a food store, but has been vacant over 10 years.

A mercantile store wants to come in and occupy a portion of the building.

Plans submitted showing 120 sq ft spacing on sprinklers.

1. No hazard specified.

2. No hydraulic calculations submitted.


SO, I am thinking minimum specify the hazard.

So, should the ahj ask for Calculations on top of that??????

That's a broad canvas. Is it high piled combustible storage? Is it high piled combustible storage with hazmat? Is it Sketcher's shoe store with back-to-back shelving units of cartoned, unexpanded Group A plastics? 20+ years old doesn't tell me everything either. Is it a pipe schedule system? Are the sprinklers > = 50 years of age?

If you're unsure seek a Technical Report and Opinion per the IFC or NFPA 1.

I would think they need to show maintenance per NFPA 25 on anything that is being kept. Also, I would think they need to do a flow test and calcs. The building was vacant 10 years. Has the water supply changed? What condition is that piping?

I would want an Owner Certificate as shown in NFPA 13. I would want hazards noted on the plan. Basically just have them follow the chapter on working drawings.
