I am doing some research on the application of R-Value to the design of power transmission structures. Any good historical references or otherwise pertaining to the R-Values as they are assigned to building systems, particularly steel?

The TIA code (for communications towers) uses R = 3.0 for latticed self supported towers and R = 1.5 for Tubular pole structures. Those structures are fairly similar to a lot of transmission structures.

I imagine the basis for this is the non-building structure portions of ASCE-7. But, I don't explicitly know.
