Hi guys,

can anyone explain to me how to restart an explicit-analysis? What I do is:

-take the original Input file with all the steps and loads, upload it into CAE
-then go to load module, and input in the field dialog box an initial state from the aborted calculation
-then write a new input file and submit it.

Is that the right way? Or do I have to do something different. - It's that the analysis is taking quite long time to run but does not give me any new results.

Thanx for any help on that!

For a restart I usually see where the job ended and then create a small input deck that just simply has *restart starting from the end of the last job, and ending at the time it's supposed to, together with all the output commands you required.

Hi Corus,

thanx for your reply, so would the input file be like that?

*HEADING
** Job name: myjob Model name: mymodel
*RESTART, READ, END STEP
*STEP,name=mystep
*DYNAMIC, EXPLICIT
, .1
*RESTART, WRITE, NUMBER INTERVAL=1
**
** FIELD OUTPUT: F-Output-1
**
*Output, field, variable=PRESELECT
**
** HISTORY OUTPUT: H-Output-1
**
*Output, history, variable=PRESELECT
**

Or is anything missing? I get the message, that the .res-file is needed, although the .res-file is inside the same directory.

*END STEP

You need the step number for explicit. Refer to the documentation for the inputs you need. Why is the *Step line there? Is it another step you require?
When you submit the job it will ask for the restart file name.
