Hello,
Is there a way to use restarts with more than 1000 steps? I'm working on a transient analysis and after each load step need to post process and then restart the analysis with new loads. After 1000 restarts I get told it can't create any more restart files. Is there a way around this?
Cheers
George

This may be to do with the number of results sets (substeps) allowed on the result file in ANSYS by default.

Use:

/CONFIG,NRES,#number#

"#number#" is 1000 by default, and hence increase this to a value beyond that.

Hi Drej,
Thanks for the suggestion I've tried it but it doesn't seem to be working. I think the problem is that there is a limit of 999 .rnnn files. I've seen mentions online that this can be worked around but I haven't seen how to do it.
Thanks
George

I think I know what I need to do but I don't know if it's possible or how to do it.
I think I need to copy the results from my 999 step to a new jobname and make that step 1. I've tried a few times to do this with save as and change jobname but it hasn't worked.
Does anyone know if this is possible and how to do so? It could also be used to speed up the model if I could change job name every 100 steps or so and then I think the results file would fit in the RAM and ANSYS wouldn't have to use the page file.
If there's now way to do this simply I think I could do it manually by outputing the temperature of each element/node from my 999 step and then using those as the initial conditions for a new analysis. It would be a bit clunkly but I think it should work.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks
George
