Any got a link or reference for restoration techniques being used on iron artifacts such as the turret recovered from the U.S.S Monitor?

TMS's JOM has had a series of archaeometallurgy articles over the past 5 to 10 years that discuss restoration. NIST work on the Titanic would be applicable.

The Monitor, cool!! I think that I built both it and the Merrimac as models when I was in junior high. Given how low to the water its deck was, it's amazing that they still considered it to be an ocean-capable vessel.

What was its nickname? Cheese on a platter, or something to that effect?

"Cheese box on a raft" , if I recall.
