Retaining Internal ID tags when replacing step files

Hi,

I am looking for any info this community can provide in regards to swapping out Step models of a revised part model (lets say with only minor feature changes) in a manufacturing assembly meanwhile retaining the majority of the Internal feature tags that the manufacturing operations already recognize and are linked to? I have heard whispers (vague in description) of functionality using model compare that will enable this. However I have done some research by poking around in UG and posed the question to GTAC with no results. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if this works with STEP but you could try the Replace Feature option. I have an article about it here:
