We are working on a project which involves in adding two more stories on top of existing building.
It would be very useful to find out existing structure's structural detail for design purposes. But the previous owner did not provide the drawings to our client. And the building was recently built. So permit drawing might be still available with authorities database.
Is there anyway to retrieve recent permit drawings from city's database??? I'm talking specifically for DC, but curious to find other cities situation also. So if you're from other city and know a way for your case, please let me know too. Thanks.

I have no idea... could be the city... I recently picked up scanned drawings from the City of Winnipeg for a building I did about 50 years ago... best to call and ask.

Yes, call the local jurisdictions building/planning department and ask.
Some jurisdictions even put this stuff all online to make access super quick and easy. It looks like DC is one of those places:

Thanks dik and dauwerda for responding!
I have used eRecords website before. But only found permit certificates when i searched. It appears they always have the whole set but just not all buildings. So for the buidlings i have searched before, there wasn't any useful things available. But they do have for the building i am currently working on. That's very helpful. Thank you so much

Thank you for reading my post! I appreciate your time.

The city where the project is, may have them... Winnipeg has a fairly good record... all you require is the owner's permission and pay about a $400. fee. Scanning is a little hit and miss... I've attached part of a building I did 50 years back nearly... back then, an engineer could do the Arch, Mech and Elect... my own drafting using parallel rules... mounted the sheets on doors with vinly surface and one drawing to each door... to change drawings, I just changed doors.
