Retrofitting of oil pressurized cable in steel pipes

Dear All,

Has somebody experience in replacement of oil pressurized cables in steel pipes by HV 138 to 245kV XLPE extruded cables ? More precisely, I would like to know if it is competitive to re-use the steel-pipe placing inside the 3phased XLPE circuit ?

Which are the main parameters, limitations, to take into account ? In your opinion or experience, is this a cost-effective solution ? I mean is it less expensive than removing the steel pipe and replacing it by a brend new XLPE cable link ?

I look for some examples and reports dealing with this issue.

///It depends. If the steel-pipe is made of stainless steel, then the stainless steel may still be good. Else, corroded steel pipe is supposed to be replaced.\\Which are the main parameters, limitations, to take into account? In your opinion or experience, is this a cost-effective solution?

Offhand, I don’t think extruded-dielectric cables replacing pipe-type assemblies have much of a track record above 138kV.
