At this time I am doing a lot of training to users comming from Pro/E or S/E and they don't like our Part Family Function.

Is it possible to use Reuse Library instead of the old Part Family Function ?

Most of my customer are using NX7.5 but I also use NX8 and NX8.5

TIA

where / what is it that they don't like ?
You want to use reuse library to do what ?
It is possible depending on what you want it to do.

Are you adding part family components thru File -Open ? ( Or thru the reuse library ?)
Part Families has a few unique options , Reuse components ( i.e krx files and excel sheets) has a few unique options...
two examples :
The reuse library components has a very nice user interface if one sets it up.
Part families has the ability to update children parts.
etc etc

Tomas

Maybe you don't know the difference.
Family member are important in the design environment.
Reuse Library is a content of resource not the resource.
I suggest you to investigate better.

Thank you...

Thanks for your both answers.

I hoped that reuse library has the ability to update children parts like part families, but definitly no [mad]

Is it planned to enhance the UI ?

Like Tomas said, it depens on what your users want to do with it.
I use both functionalities and both are with their pro's and con's.
Could your customers be a bit more precise on what they do'n like in Part families?
There is a lot off knowledge in this forums users...

Related to this topic, I have a question. While adding a reuse component to the assembly, the dialogue shows a preview image, but this option is not avilable for part family components, even if I select template part while adding component to the assembly.

Any ideas how to integrate such image in Part Family template.

Hi man2007,
can you attach a screen shot of your problem ?

Thank you...

Using NX 8 and TC9.1

Hi man2007,
all it's clear.
Yours master family parts can be/are reuse library component.
I suggest you to download some documents from gtac to understand how to convert you master family part into reuse library components.
The conversion is very simple, you need to put your master in the right folder and create related krx file.
After that you can have more opportunity.
Read the help also and the Cast online, always downloadbel from GTAC.

Thank you...

BTW, exactly where do you think that the Reuse Library parts are coming from? They ARE all Family Table Parts. The only difference is that we've developed some additional functionality (provided via the .krx files) which provides for a slicker user interface, but underneath that dialog, the parts themselves are spawned from Family Table Parts.

I once was able to download from the GTAC website, a very good "Best practice" for the creation of ReUse parts.
It was named Standard Parts Creation Best Practice_v1.1.doc
i don't know if is still there, or iff there is an update on it.
It provides very usefull how-to information on this ReUse functionality.

Greetings,

That document is still available and can be downloaded from the GTAC support site, from the same page that you download new versions of NX. Just look for the item near the bottom of the list titled 'Machinery Library' and you will find the document there.
