Okay, it's not directly engineering-related, but it's work-related, as I use it to manage my contacts (as in, "what the hell is this number I have scribbled here?")

I used to use reversephonedirectory.com all the time, but now it seem to have become a for-pay service. There are still some white pages directories that do reverse phone lookups, but it seems that all the reverse cell lookups still link back now to some paid service. (Intellius, something like that.) I'm not looking for the person's full name, etc.; all I really want is what I used to get--confirmation that yes, it's a cell phone (as opposed to some unlisted land line). The reverse lookup used to get me the city and the wireless provider. Does anyone know of any free remaining resources that provide similar information?

Try putting your phone number( Area code with spaces) in quotes in google.

I tried that. It doesn't work for cell phones, only listed landlines.

All I really want is an indication of "Yep, it's a cell phone number."

IceNine--during a long distance phone bill audit, I did resort to calling numbers. But I hate to do that when I used to have a perfectly good online resource.

I think the US equivalent to justkeepgiviner's resource is but it doesn't recognize cell numbers.

Oh well. I guess the way to go is if the yellowbook doesn't recognize it, but the reverse phone lookup people say it's available and offer to sell me a report, it's probably a cell phone...

dont pay for that intellus service, it is flakey ( i think it may be a scam ) and will fill your inbox with unwanted junkmail FOREVER!

Good luck.

Hg,
Does canada411 work for you?

I plugged in a US cellphone number, and it told me it's a cellphone from New York and that Verizon is the provider, which AFAIK is accurate for the number I put in.

Hey, you're right! The Canadian 411 does work. Cool!
