Why are we limited to a certain amount of characters in each cell of a table? Merging the cells, removing lines from cells, adjusting the spacing is tedious work.

Anyone using tables for revision blocks, or know of a better way (just creating a table out of lines and having dummy text equally spaced out from the lines is out of the question. With todays tools, that is primative and not thinking of the future).

Work arounds?

Justin,
You are limited because of the way you are entering data into the field. There are three ways to enter text into a cell in a table. The first, double clicking on the cell, will limit the number of characters. The second, select the cell then right mouse button - edit text, will use the annotation editor and will not limit the number of characters. The third and also my favorite, use a spreadsheet to popultate the table. This allows for much more control over the contents of the table and also allows you to import a spredsheet form outside of NX.

If you would like I can post detailed instructions.

fgbrender,
...please do so! :)

CAD should pay for itself, shouldn't it?

Yea, especially of the 3rd way. (I can do the 1st and 2nd =) ).

Thank you for the help. This will help us tremendous.

Could you tell me what type of information you are populating the table with? That would help me tell you the proper method.

We have date, revision (revision change being A, B, C, etc), revision description, approved and authority.

This is going to take a little time for me to capture images a type instructions. Please be patient. I am putting it in Powerpoint and will either email it to you or post it on my website for you to view.

Will post when it is complete.

A couple of more questions...

Are you using Teamcenter as you datamanager?

Are you using any attributes for release level, release date, etc.

No TC at all. It's in the works. We use CMS as our PDM. Old .

No attributes either. I want to work towards getting attributes set up in our seed files, but I haven't figured out how to work them, other than putting them in the properties section and getting them displayed on our titleblocks. That's about it.

Thank you for all your hard work.

OK, it's done. Follow this link to the instructions:
Please use this only for personal reference and do not distribute it, especially withing corporations. I don't mind helping individuals but I do not want my work being incorporated into corporate business process without compensation.

Hope this is helpful

Wow, excellent power point. You certainly spent a lot of time on that and I do appreciate it.

It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. I just need to get down and run through it a few times to get the hang of it. But I certainly think that will work to a T.

Thank you again Frederick, much appreciated. (I poked around the website some. I am a MI native and also worked at GM for some time. I also played paintball for about 10 years, good times.)

Now my next thing is setting up attributes to update the drawing format, or even some script that will do the same.

If you are migrating to Teamcenter sometime in the future, I would recomend holding off on the attributes until such time as you migrate. Teamcenter brings a lot of opportunity for automating mundane tasks with the proper configuration.

Glad I could be of help and thanks for the kind remarks.
