Revision Tables - Switching from Numeric to Alpha

In the SW revision table, I'd like to create a macro to switch from numeric to alpha revisions. Using the record macro command does not allow allow me to change document properties (where the revision table control is located).
Is there a way for someone (with limited SW programming skills) to change document properties using a macro?
