Rewelding of pipe joint to boiler

would it create any problem if we reweld the same joint (of one pipe 2" to the shell of boiler) which has already been welded (repaired by welding)four time with the gap of one year , steam is leaking at the moment , i need very urgebt response

I have been out of the power industry for some time but I do recall some of the do's and dont's. Typically, if it is not fixed after three attempts it is replaced. I am not sure if you are talking about a butt joint from a pipe to a nipple or a saddle weld from the boiler to the nipple. If you are not stress relieving the joint after you attempt to repair it the material is still prone to cracking. You will need to be a little more specific with the question to get a more informed response.

Contact a Qualified Repair Firm. See current NBIC. You could have a design issue of merely workmanship.

If you are in the U.S. and insured there is person called the "Authorized Inspector" that works for the insurance company that can offer assistance with your problem. They are well versed in the ASME Codes along with the NBIC. Both of these codes address your issue in great detail.

Your job appears to be to get the boiler back in service as soon as possible. The repair may be made under NBIC rules. The real problem is to determine cause of repeated failures. Is is welding related; e.g., lack of preheat - noting that the drum is very thick compared to the 2" pipe and poses an immense heat sink. Or is it design related; e.g., water hammer.
