I've got a Dayton 1 ph Model #6K266 (115/208-230)motor. I have(blue, orange,&(orange or pink)) tied together. Then red(8)& black tied. The brown & violet are individuals. My line voltage is 240v. My question is where to land L1 & L2.

Do some of the other colored leads besides red(8) have numbers?

No, only the red has a number. The plackard says" v(9);Bl(4);Red(8);Or(5): To CCW rev. (5) & (8)

5 & 8 (red & black) are typically the Start windings and should NOT be together. Confirm this by using an ohm meter and seeing continuity for a second as the capacitor charges.
Can you tell us what leads have continuity?

The leads that continuity are: Red-Orange (temp.1-2 sec's?); Violet-Brown-Blue; Black- Lt.(Orange/Red?). There are 7 Leads. I can't check the continuity as the capacitor charges as it's no longer on it's mount. (Or powered-up)

To check the continuity of the start winding open the cover for the start capacitor and temporarily jumper out the capacitor. You then need to temporarily disconnect the start winding from the run windings. You will now be able to independently check the continuity of the start and run windings.

NEMA MG1 defines the equivalent colors for single phase motors.
T1=blue, T2=white, T3=orange, T4=yellow, T5=black, T8=red
P1=any color (no color) and P2=brown.

Since you reported seven leads, including brown color your motor must be dual voltage with thermal protector. The connections for 230 volts are series with option for CW or CCW rotations. If L1 and L2 are your power lines the connection you should have for 230 Volts is as follow:

Clockwise Rotation
L1 to P1(no color)
L2 to T4(Yellow)
Join and insulate P2&T5 (Brown and Black)
Join and insulate T2,T3&T8 (White,Orange&Red)

Note that heat, time and insulating tapes make discoloration on the cables cover.
BTW continuity must ring between P1 ,P2 & T2 and between T3&T4
T8 open (connected to auxiliary winding)
T5 open (connected to a capacitor)

alternative connection for Counter Clockwise Rotation
L1 to P1(no color)
L2 to T4(Yellow)
Join and insulate P2&T8 (Brown and Red)
Join and insulate T2,T3&T5 (White,Orange&black)
