I am looking for a low cost RF Field Strength Meter. It should be tunable to a specific frequency in the 800 MHz band. I also need it to be handheld, and portable, especially battery powered.
I'd like to use this for 2 purposes: Measuring the signal strength from an antenna for in-building repeater systems, and measuring the signal strength indoors from local radio transmitting sites.
A brand, model number, and contact would be very much appreciated.
With a little understanding of antenna theory, it is possible to construct your very own absolute reading field strength meter - get results in absolute V/M (uV/M). I'm currently completing a design that will appear in QEX or QST in the near future. By making use of log amplifier chips, this FSM can be quite sensitive. Targeting it to work from 30 MHz up to 1 GHz. This may be the answer for you. Expect parts costs to be in the $40 range.

Looking for Hf Field Strength Meter, 3-30 MHz.
To measure and compare HF Mobile antenna performance.
Used unit is acceptable.
