Rigid Body Orientation-Dependent Concentrated Load in Explicit

Hello forum. I'm beyond stumped. Maybe there is an ABAQUS guru out there that can help solve my problem.

I have modeled a geometrically axisymmetric body in ABAQUS/Explicit. Please picture a conventional projectile if you will in 2D (XY) space, and assume it is rigid. It is free to translate anywhere in the plane, but can only rotate about an axis normal to the plane. Body loads are applied.

I would like to apply a vertical (Y-direction) concentrated force to a node residing at the Center of Gravity as a function of the body's angle of rotation. Trickery is obviously required. Two weeks now, and many dead ends. Any ideas?

Maybe you should look at using the VDLOAD subroutine.

However, this subroutine is called for each integration point, therefore instead of applying the concentrated force at a node, you probably will have to distribute it somehow on the elements in the vicinity of the center of gravity.

The good part , is that VDLOAD is supplied with the current coordinates of integration points so you can estimate the angle of rotation...I think.

Thanks for the reply xerf. I think you are right. And I considered going down the VDLOAD road, but only as a last resort. I was going to put a rigid shell element at the CG with an area of unity. The net pressure would therefore be equal to the desired force. Looks like I may be at that point. Just hoping I wasn't overlooking something obvious I guess.
