We are doing our equipment alignment by using both RI and RF methods ...Can anyone give me the simplest formula to calculate the shim size needed to remove or placed for the Rim and Face Method?

"Wagon Wheel method" by Westinghouse

It addresses the face or gap from the top of the coupling

A = coupling diameter

B = Length from coupling face to first foot / pad

C = Length from coupling face to rear foot / pad

Example: Closing a coupling gap .004".

A = 21"

B = 17"

C = 44"

(17/21)*.004 = .003" front foot correction

(44/21)*.004 = .008" rear foot correction

You have to correct both feet at the same time to rotate the coupling into alignment. Only doing one foot will cause issues.

This only corrects angularity. It will not correct for any offset of the equipment.

You can add as many feet or pads as necessary.
