Hi,
For a 2500# RTJ the specification request GASKET,RTJ,8IN,2500#,CS,OCTAGONAL,R51 (Low Carbon Steel) and we received GASKET,RTJ,8IN,2500#,SI/LCS,OCTAGONAL,R51 (Soft Iron, according with Materials Table; the hardness for Low Carbon Steel is 120 Brinel and for Soft Iron is 90 Brinel. I know from standar that the hardness of the ring shall be lower than that of the flange. But the question are the following:
What would be the consequences caused by usisng Soft Iron instead of Low Carbon Steel?
How could this difference in hardness affect the sealing integrity of the joint?
Best regards.
