Hi,
Is it normal to see a grating working in cantilever on a road bridge? I have never seen footbridge grating work in cantilever, but I am not sure for road bridges.

I guess it depends on the grating and the loads on the guardrail... it can be made to work, but not the best way to do it, perhaps.

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?

Thank you dik! Appreciated! I will ask to study this part of the bridge more.

You would want to be extremely careful that there is no way for the grating to lift off when there’s a load out on the cantilever. For example, if a vehicle were positioned at an angle, the might be a wheel load out on the cantilever and no wheel load on the back span. Could be catastrophic. That grating has little to no two-way action.
