I am working in a developing country where the centreline of the road is painted manually. In spite of the efforts made by the painters to paint, the centre line markings look zig-zagged.Is there a simpler way to paint the centre line so that thay look smooth and pleasing so as to teach the local painter in a simpler and popular way?

Measure out from the sides to find the center line every so often, then run a string line between the marks. One option is to use a chalk line for the string line, make a chalk mark then paint to the mark. Alternately, use a thick line, say 1/4" diameter, between the marks and run down the line with a can of spray paint, then paint to the marks.

If they're painting the centerline manually, I doubt if the edges are good enough to measure off.

If you have something to sight down, set it up from one end to the other of the straightaway, then mark the pavement and use a string line like GeoPaveTraffic said.
