Been trying to test a frame for a recumbent bicycle that was built using weldments, but each time I set up the study it reports to "please define bonded contact sets between beam and solid shell". Any ideas how to do this, after repeated attempts I've come up with nothing?

It is saying that you need to join your beam elements properly to the shell elements, taking into account the DOFs that the nodes for each type of element can handle.

In practice this means building a spider of beam elements or springs or the dreaded rigids out to several shell element nodes.

This is unrealistic for various reasons, but is the best you can do.

That's why most people use homogenous meshes.
