Rolling plate with grain direction

Could anyone please tell me, if it is required for the material grain direction to be in line with the rolling direction when making pressure vessels? Thank you!

That is one reason ASME limits fiber elongation.
 
It used to be and some Engs still hold the practice but ASME got rid of it a few Yrs back.
It is better to keep the grain whenever possible,

You generally work to the dimensions of the rolled plate; i.e., 8 or 10 ft wide becomes the length of the shell courses.
