Roof slope factor Cs for snow in NBC-Canada

The commentary for the NBC-Canada (G4.18, Roof Slope Factor, Cs) states that "Snow loads on a sloping surface act on the horizontal projection of the surface."

The NBC formula for snow load takes into account the slope of the roof through the Cs factor but it is not clear if this is only for the reduced amount of snow accumulating on a more steeply sloped roof or if it also takes into account the horizontal projected area which is smaller for a sloped roof.

I wouldn't normally fret over this since it would usually be conservative to use an un-projected load in design, but in a failure analysis I might not want to overestimate the applied loads.

Any thoughts appreciated.

TIA
