I have to design a reinforced concrete roof top pool for a multi-story building however I was trying to find a design example using the ACI code without success. Thus far I have found this article:

Which has given me a better understanding of the challenges involved however I would greatly appreciate it if I can be directed to a website, link or book in order to obtain a design example I can follow. Many thanks in advance.

I would not be so concerned with the design of the pool as the effect the extra weight of the water and pool structure will have on the rest of the building below the pool seismically.

Noted with thanks msquared48 for your contribution.

I suggest to go through ACI literatures on design of hydraulic and liquid containing structures. On design, pay attention to foundation, which, depending on height of the structure, could experience tremendous overturning and lateral forces from combined seismic and hydrodynamic effects. Also, the reinforcing steel needs to be designed/detailed to satisfy ACI crack control criteria.

Noted, helpful indeed, thank you retired13 for your contribution.

Surbano:
Search here on E-Tips, particularly the Structural forum, for swimming pools, roof top pools and the like. I think we’ve discussed this subject, and related topics, several times over the last few years.
