Is there anything in the mechanical codes that talks about using screens around roof top equipment. I cant find anything in the municipal codes about not viewing equipment from the street but I am sure its there.

I've brought up a bunch of machinery for this company. They seem to be on-the-ball and have a bunch of engineers. I'd bet they can point you directly at what typical codes are and probably know what rules many specific cities or states require.

They have a 'help' listed on this page:

Agree with dhenger.

Probably governed by the decisions of the local Architectural Design Review Board (DRB) based on local jurisdiction administrative policy.

You might consider local noise codes as well. Barriers/screens/walls can provide noise control if properly engineered with appropriate materials.

Check air flow restrictions to your mechanical equipment. I worked for a firm that had to install "screens" around rooftop units, only to find that the screens inhibited air flow to the units. Holes had to be cut in the screens to allow adequate air flow.
