Hi Friends,
I require some guidance in ROtary Gear pump trouble shooting. We have a leakage problem in a lube oil circulating pump( worthington 4GAUFTM 26 USGPM @ 25 psi )1/1/2HP motor). The seals seems to be giving in consistently.
The fluid is pumped at 50-55 deg C and has vicosity of 170SSU at 38 deg C.
The pump has a negative suction about 2 ft ( without any foot valve) located on top of the Lube oil tank.
The pump has its own internal releif valve and the disharge piping is rigidly connected to the main header of the main lube oil pump isolated by a piston type check valve in between. The operating pressure of the main header is controlled by PCV at 30psig. The circulating pump does not operate when the main pump is running.
my questions:
a) any ideas about cause and possible remidies ?
a) Is a suction lift of 2 ft is acceptable ?
b) Do we need a foot valve installed ?
c) Is it normal to connect a short expansion joint or a flexible hose at the discharge to relieve any loads due to thermal expansion
d) For 170 SSU is can we go for a vertical submerged pump
Any comments will be appreciated
