Is the curve supplied for a rotary pump based on the stated liquid or with the test water. If so can anybody please explain how to collaborate the two figures if the curves are based on water (i.e. from water to service fluid and vice-versa)

The short answer is, it depends. Most of the 'catalog' curves are for either water, or other liquids with different viscosities, but generally speaking there will be a note on the curve if it is for anything other than water. If the curve was done for a specific proposal, generally speaking it will be the curve for the specified liquid, but, again, it generally will say on the curve somewhere.
