I have designed a snap beam fastening mechanism which is spring loaded to provide a releasable clamping force between two surfaces but am having trouble calculating the appropriate geometry of the snapping beam due to the strange loading conditions. Attached is a picture of the mechanism, I am having trouble accounting for the rotational stiffness of the compression spring seeing how it does not act at a finite point. What is the best way to account for this? This design has been made and is currently in use, but I have noticed the spring's rotational stiffness is actually a dominate factor. I'm asking because I'm trying to improve on the mechanism for the next update. Thanks for your help.
