Rubber lined piping

Dear all,

This is the first time I'm involved with rubber lined piping so probably I'm looking for the fundamentals.I have the following questions.

-Rubber lined flanged fittings can be made of B16.9 fittings and B16.5 slip-on raised flanges ?
-Flanged joints need gaskets ?
-Regarding lining thickness, i have read that ".....for any size of pipe 8″ and below 1/4″ is fine, anything above you can use 1/2. True of False ?
-Is soft natural rubber the proper material for tailings ?

Yes, 150# raised face, welding neck, slip-on, or lap joint, forged carbon steel ASTM A105, ANSI/ASME B16.5. Bore of welding neck flanges shall match pipe I.D.

-Flanged joints need gaskets ?
The rubber lining is carried over to outer edges of raised face flanges so that no gasket is required.

-Regarding lining thickness, i have read that ".....for any size of pipe 8″ and below 1/4″ is fine, anything above you can use 1/2. True of False ?
Some prefer just 1/2" thickness on the elbows and bends larger than 8-Inch, with the pipe thickness being 1/4". It depends on the application and operating experience.

-Is soft natural rubber the proper material for tailings?
Soft gum natural rubber lining is typically used for tailings. Minimum thick of 1/4", 40 ± 5 Durometer after vulcanization.
 
It is a bit of a pain to get anything below 8" internally coated, so coating thicknesses possible at smaller pipe diameters are limited. Ask your intended coating contractor what his capabilities are.
 
I echo BigInch's comments: internal lining is quite tough to accomplish below a certain line size. As the linesize decreases, so does the maximum length of spool pieces which can be lined and inspected.

If the rubber lining is for erosion resistance only, that's not all that difficult. But if the lining must resist both erosion AND corrosion, it gets even tougher to accomplish in small lines.
