Hi,

May I know, in normal operations, will the rupture disc/burst disc installed on the tank's vent line ALLOW the gas to flow through it, as long as the pressure in the line is lower or within its burst pressure, as a mean of +pressure breathing?

In this case, during re-filling of raw materials into the tank, with N2-Blanket.

Thank you for your input, in advance.

Cheers!

Simple answer - NO it won't

Bursting discs are a use once only device to provide very fast operation large relief flow to prevent overpressure from a very fast or very high flow unexpected event, not a normal operation like filling and discharging.

Note that most "tanks" (=near-atmospheric containers) don't have a rupture disc/ burst disc- but will have various types of vents intended to avoid the issue you're addressing.

Thank you very much all, for the useful input.

We recently had an occurrence of a ruptured burst disc, occurred due to the tank's drying with compressed air.

The tank is located in the cold room, with N2 blanketing.

Burst Disc rating at +0.6 Barg @ 6 degC. May I know what is the rated temperature 6 degC actually referred to? Differential Temperature or the actual temperature the burst disc is exposed to?

Temperature of the fluid on the pressure side of the disc and hence temperature of the disc. If outside air was colder and it was exposed then that might be an issue.

Thank you all for the info & inputs.

The burst disc ruptured when drying work was commencing with dry compressed air, set at 1 BarG, and the possibility of due point valves were still in closed position. There was a delay in our alarm signal system that it picked up the signal of the burst too late.
