These seem like simple questions, but I need to get some help answering them:

My production joint is a double bevel (Mil-Std-22 figure 5) that will be done with a GTAW root and SMAW first side, followed by complete removal of the GTAW from the backside, and filling with SMAW so that I'm left with a completely SMAW filled joint on both sides. If I'm using a WPS qualified by a single V with backing joint (Mil-Std-22 figure 3), can I use the above production joint, or does 4.4.1.7 (and 4.7.3.1) prohibit that?

Is the situation changed if my production weld does not involve any GTAW, and only uses SMAW?

Subsequently, using Table X figure 14 for performance qualification, am I correct that note 5 allows the welder to qualify using ANY Mil-Std-22 joint with the understanding that in production I still need to use WPS that has been qualified for the production joint?
