I am trying to figure what are the real advantage and disadvantage between forging SA-105 and SA-266 for main flanges and tubesheets of heat exchangers. Usually, SA-105 is specified for fittings, nozzle flanges, forged nozzles, etc. But is it possible to use SA-105 for girth flanges (main) and tubesheets in heat exchangers?

Thanks for your answer and comments…!

Yes, ASME SA-105 can be used for piping and equipment flanges that are limited to 10,000 lbs or less in weight. Tubesheets are a different component and, as such, would really fall under ASME SA-266. I would recommend you read each ASME Specification carefully.

I believe SA-105 specifically states it is not to be used for tubesheets. Don't have a copy handy.

SnTMan;
ASME SA-105 does not specifically state anything about tubesheets, but what it does state in the Standard Specification title is;

Specification for Carbon Steel Forgings for Piping Applications". A tubesheet in a heat exchanger does not qualify as a flange for a piping component.

SnTMan;
Actually, upon further reading you are correct. There is one sentence in Scope paragraph 1.1 that specifically states ...Tubesheets and hollow cylindrical forgings for pressure vessel shells are not included within the scope of this specification.

....I better get my eyes examined….
