SA 516 Gr 60 steel and HIC compliant issues 1

Our fabricator / supplier for heat exchanger that is to be used in sour service has raised following doubts.

1. That the Quench and Temper tratment specified by 3.1 certificate is not available for SA516Gr60

2. Hardness after tratment will be 160 - 190 HV10 that is much lower than specified 248 HV10.

Guys is there any reply to these questions.

Any help will be appriciated.

1. 3.1 certificates don't specify heat treatment, they record the heat treatment. A516 does not require a quenched and tempered heat treatment condition.

2. It is entirely possible that a normalised plate will achieve the stated hardness values. 248 HV10 is a maximimum, not a minimum!

A516 does not does not require temper and quench treatment then how hardness limitation ( < 248HV10 ) can be achieved.
