Hello everyone
as per our (client) specification All ferritic materials shall be supplied in the normalized condition.

the contractor propose the slug catcher material as "SA 537 CL.2 + SS 316L SS Clad".
SA 537 CL.2 will be quench and tempered (Q&T) as per ASME SEC II part A Ed.2017 and the tempering temperature for Class 2 plates shall not be less than 1100°F [595°C]. Q&T heat-treated material is also accepted as per UCS-23 of ASME SEC VIII Div.1 Ed.2017 and Table 3-A.1 of ASME SEC.VIII Div. 2 Ed.2017. This has been proposed based on allowable stress at design temperature 90°C for SA 537 CL.2 material which is significantly higher than other materials like SA 516 GR. 70 and SA537 CL 1.

also to note that the specification for the maximum carbon equi is 0.43

What are your thoughts about this material. the pros and cons?.

I've used SA537 for low temp applications and for clad applications. Thinner wall, less expensive than SA516-70 for heavy wall pressure vessels.

What about their mechanical and chemical properties. Pros and cons compared to the normalized CS.

Corrosion properties are essentially the same for SA-537 and SA-516. But they are immaterial in your case since the 316 cladding provides the corrosion protection.

thx all for your response
My concern is if this material is acceptable by ASME SEC VIII Div.1 and what is its ASTM equiv?
Sincerely

Take a look at Section !! Part D. The info is there.

This looks like an error made by the tech spec author, because of the disconnect between

"All ferritic materials shall be supplied in the normalized condition"
and
"SA 537 CL.2"
